myLexia Settings: Highest Grade automatically Assigned to Core5
Overview
In sites with active Reading licenses, all new or reset student accounts are automatically assigned to Core5 or PowerUp, based on the student’s assigned grade level in myLexia, and a myLexia site setting.
The Core5 Grade setting determines the highest grade that is automatically assigned to Core5 for your school or district. The default setting is "5th grade,” but your site setting may have been set to be higher or lower.
This site setting affects all students whose Reading Status is "Not Started.” Student accounts with the status of "Not Started" include new accounts and accounts that were reset.
Changing the Core5 Grade setting only affects new or reset students. Students who are currently working in either Core5 or PowerUp will not be affected by a change to this setting.
Applies to: Educators and Administrators who have myLexia District Admin access, and some Educators and Administrators who have School Admin access to myLexia.
Does not Apply to: Staff who have myLexia School Admin accounts in a district site, or staff who have Teacher accounts or Read-Only accounts.
Only highest-level admins in a site can change this setting; however, teachers and School Admins in district sites can manually place individual students into Lexia Core5
Reading or Lexia
PowerUp Literacy
to override the automatic program assignment.

What happens after I change the Core5 Grade setting?
The Core5 grade setting only affects new or reset students. Students who are currently working in either Core5 or PowerUp will not be affected by a change to this setting.
Account status | Effect on account | On their next login… |

After I change the setting, how do I know whether a student is assigned to PowerUp or Core5?
Check the Status column in the Reading Program Information section under Manage > Students.

Reading Status | Meaning |
Either Core5 or PowerUp | The student is currently enrolled in Core5 or PowerUp and has started work in the program, or they were manually assigned to a level in either program. |
Not Started | The student has an account they haven’t logged in to, or a reset account. Students in the Not Started category are assigned to either Core5 or PowerUp depending on their grade level and the Core5Grade setting. |
In Placement | The student started Auto Placement in either Core5 or PowerUp, but has not completed Auto Placement. Select the Edit Student icon (the pencil) to view the student’s assigned program. |
If I change a student’s grade level, will that change their program assignment based on the Core5 Grade setting?
That depends on the student’s Reading Status.
Students whose Reading Status is Core5, PowerUp, or In Placement: The Core5 Grade setting only affects accounts with a Reading Status of Not Started, so any students currently enrolled in either Core5 or PowerUp (including students in placement) will not be switched to the other program based on a grade change in myLexia.
Students whose Reading Status is Not Started: Students whose reading status is Not Started may be assigned to a different program based on their new myLexia grade. For example, in a district whose Core5 Grade setting is 5th grade, a student whose status is Not Started and who is moved from 5th grade to 6th grade would have their program assignment changed from Core5 to PowerUp.
Can I change the program assignment for individual students?
Yes! You can assign individual students to either Core5 or PowerUp. Please see:
