Setting up Summer School Classes with Clever

Overview

This article describes rostering options for Clever customers who would like to set up classes to monitor students who use Lexia®️ programs during summer school or an extended school year. With custom sections in Clever, you can create summer school classes in myLexia®️ using data from your existing rostering feed. Another option is to manually create and manage summer school classes in myLexia.

We recommend creating summer school classes in myLexia®️ instead of creating a separate school to house summer school student accounts.

If students are moved to a school in myLexia that has no licenses allocated to it, they won’t be able to log in to Lexia programs. Using summer school classes rather than creating summer schools can avoid summer school login problems, and is more efficient than moving student accounts between schools at the start and end of summer school.

Students can be included in classes at any school, not just their assigned school

Classes can contain students and staff from multiple schools

Applies to: Staff who have myLexia®️ administrative accounts (District Administrators in a district site, and School Administrators in a school site) who also have administrative access to .

What methods can I use to set up summer school classes in Clever?

  • Create custom sections in Clever that sync to myLexia

  • Create manual classes in myLexia that you manage outside of the Clever sync

  • Use a combination of both of these options

Option One – use custom sections in Clever

With Clever’s custom sections, manually create and manage sections from your Clever dashboard. You can use custom sections to create sections in Clever that don't exist in your Student Information System (SIS), making them ideal for creating summer school classes. A benefit of setting up custom sections is that you can remove them from Clever once summer school is over.

Does pausing the Clever sync affect summer classes?

Many districts pause their sync during the summer so that they can make adjustments to the Student Information System without affecting summer school data.

During the sync pause window, the nightly sync to myLexia will not create, delete, or modify classes. Make sure you know when the district pause will begin and end.

If you would like to use custom sections, set them up before the Clever sync is paused.

Option Two - Set up manual classes in myLexia

Create manual classes in myLexia to manage summer school classes. Classes you create in myLexia are exception classes that are not affected by the Clever sync, so you need to modify these classes directly in myLexia, rather than through your sync. A benefit to using manual classes is that you can create and modify them even when your Clever sync is paused.

Recommendations for Manual Classes:

  • Use a naming convention to make summer classes easily identifiable in myLexia – both for reports and to make it easier to delete the classes at the end of the summer.

  • Identify someone who will be responsible for creating summer school classes and removing them when summer school is over.
