Setting Up Summer School Classes with ClassLink or OneRoster
Overview
This article describes rostering options for ClassLink or OneRoster customers who would like to set up classes to monitor students who use Lexia programs during summer school or an extended school year. If you create summer school classes in your Student Information System, you can sync them to myLexia. Another option is to manually create and manage summer school classes in myLexia.
We recommend creating summer school classes in myLexia instead of creating a separate school to house summer school student accounts.
If students are moved to a school in myLexia that has no licenses allocated to it, they won’t be able to log in to Lexia programs. Using summer school classes rather than creating summer schools can avoid summer school login problems, and is more efficient than moving student accounts between schools at the start and end of summer school.
Students can be included in classes at any school, not just their assigned school
Classes can contain students and staff from multiple schools
Applies to: Administrators and/or school or district technical staff
What methods can I use to set up summer school classes in ClassLink or OneRoster?
Option One – create summer classes in your Student Information System
With ClassLink or OneRoster, if you would like to automate summer school classes, you will need to create them in your Student Information System and share them with myLexia at the start of summer school.
Create summer school classes in your Student Information System.
When you are ready for summer school classes to be added to myLexia, add them to the nightly feed.
Does pausing the ClassLink or OneRoster sync affect summer classes?
Many districts pause their sync during the summer so that they can make adjustments to the Student Information System without affecting summer school data.
During the sync pause window, the nightly sync to myLexia will not create, delete, or modify classes. Make sure you know when the district pause will begin and end.
If you would like to sync summer school classes from your Student Information System through ClassLink or OneRoster, set up the classes and add them to the nightly feed before the sync is paused.
Option Two - Set up manual classes in myLexia
You can create manual classes in myLexia to create and manage summer school classes. Classes you create in myLexia are exception classes that are not affected by the ClassLink or OneRoster sync, so you need to modify these classes directly in myLexia, rather than through your sync. A benefit to using manual classes is that you can create and modify them even when your sync is paused.

Recommendations for Manual Classes:
Use a naming convention to make summer classes easily identifiable in myLexia – both for reports and to make it easier to delete the classes at the end of the summer.
Identify someone who will be responsible for creating summer school classes and removing them when summer school is over.
