Why isn't Language Support Available in Lexia English Auto Placement?

Overview

The Language Support Button in Lexia English Language Development™ provides additional support for multilingual learners and allows them to hear task directions in their native language. This article explains why Language Support is not available during Lexia English Auto Placement.

Language support must be enabled in myLexia before students can access it in Lexia English. To learn how to enable language support for a student, see How do I Enable Language Support in Lexia English?

Applies to: Educators and administrators who have Teacher, School Admin, or District Admin access to myLexia®.

The goal of Lexia English is to support language development skills in Emergent Bilingual students. The Auto Placement tool is designed to determine a student's current receptive and productive language skills (speaking, grammar and syntax, and listening comprehension). Students are placed into an entry point that corresponds with their knowledge and use of English.

For this reason, during Auto Placement we remove supplemental supports included in the instructional program, such as scaffolding, feedback, and language support. This allows us to conclude that a student’s Auto Placement performance represents their current English reading and language proficiency and that their instructional needs will be addressed through their initial placement and subsequent program levels.
