Clever Setup FAQ

Overview

This document is for administrators who are planning or setting up a sync between Clever and myLexia. It addresses some of the most common questions we hear during the setup process; hopefully, it will answer some of yours!

If you’re setting up Clever for the first time, check out the Clever Onboarding series of articles.

Applies to: Staff who have myLexia® administrative accounts (District Administrators in a district site, and School Administrators in a school site) who also have administrative access to Clever.

Does not Apply to: Staff who have myLexia School Admin accounts in a district site, or staff who have Teacher accounts or Read-Only accounts.

How do I start setting up a sync between Clever and myLexia?

To start the process of setting up a sync between Clever and myLexia, request the myLexia app from Clever. After Lexia Support approves your request, we will work with you to match your existing staff, student, and class data in myLexia with the data you share with us in Clever.

Why is my launch date so far away?

When we approve your Clever myLexia request, we set a tentative launch date that is several months in the future. This doesn’t mean that you will not be able to start using Clever before that date—it’s to ensure that we will have more than enough time to complete the setup process before Clever is activated. We will be able to launch the application before the launch date if the Clever set up is complete or postpone the launch date if you need more time.

What happens to existing classes if we start managing classes through Clever?

If you choose to manage classes through Clever, when Clever is activated, all classes that were previously set up in myLexia will be deleted. Please note that classes do not affect student data -- that is, if a class is deleted, it does not delete the accounts or history of students in that class. Clever will create new classes based on your sharing rules, but you will need to recreate any custom classes.

If your Clever integration takes place during the school year, and if you have already set up classes, you may want to choose to not sync classes with Clever for the first year.

How often does data get synced to myLexia?

Once your Clever sync is activated, syncs between Clever and myLexia happen nightly. Please keep in mind that because your student information system (SIS) must first sync with Clever, and then Clever syncs with myLexia each night, after you make changes in your SIS, it may take two days for the change to be reflected in myLexia.

Some districts sync less frequently due to the amount of data being shared.

Can I edit individual student usernames or passwords in myLexia after we start syncing with Clever?

After you start syncing with Clever, you will not be able to edit individual student usernames and passwords in myLexia for Clever-managed student accounts.

Student usernames and passwords will follow the convention you chose in the automated import settings. Please note that the convention for all students can be changed if necessary, but you can’t change usernames or passwords for individual student accounts or groups of students.

Can we have different usernames or passwords for our younger students?

No. All Clever-managed student accounts must follow the same username and password convention. If logging in with long usernames and/or passwords is difficult for younger students, consider using Clever badges. If your district uses Clever badges, badges may simplify the login process for younger students. For more information on Clever badges, please contact Clever support.

If we choose a Lexia username and password during setup, does that mean that our students can’t use Single Sign-on?

If you choose a Lexia username and password during the setup process, your students can do both! They can either login directly to Lexia programs, e.g. at lexiacore5.com or use Clever Single Sign-on (SSO). Please note that if you would like your students to be able to use SSO, you must share students with both the myLexia app (for provisioning) and the appropriate Lexia student application (for SSO access) in Clever.
