Learn More About: PowerUp Streaks
Overview
Streaks are a feature in Lexia® PowerUp Literacy® to reward students for focusing on their work and choosing the correct answer. The more questions a student answers correctly in a row, the higher streak they build.
This article answers some of the frequently asked questions about PowerUp streaks and streak shields.
Applies to: Educators and administrators whose students use Lexia® PowerUp Literacy®
What are PowerUp streaks?
Once a student answers five questions correctly in a row, they begin to build a streak, which is displayed at the top of the PowerUp window.

Students can track their current streak, as well as their streak record, from their PowerUp student dashboard. This encourages them to continue doing their best work in the program and break their highest streak record.
How is a streak earned, and when is it lost?
When a PowerUp student answers five questions correctly in a row, they begin to collect a streak. With every consecutive correct answer, the student will continue to add to their streak.
Students can maintain their streak even if they answer a question incorrectly on the first try. In most cases, if the student answers correctly on the second try, they will continue their current streak.
If they answer incorrectly on the second try, the current streak will be lost and the student will start working towards a new streak.
What is a streak shield?
As a student completes units, the shield icon next to their streak number will begin to fill in. When the student has completed five units, they will earn a streak shield—the shield icon will turn blue and move over to "cover" the streak.

A shield protects the student’s current streak. The shield deploys automatically if the student is about to lose their streak due to an incorrect answer. The student will then begin to earn a new streak shield.
Do streaks reset at the beginning of the week?
No. A student maintains their streak until they break it by answering questions incorrectly. Their current streak will carry over from one week to the next.
Do streaks carry over from one strand to another?
Yes. A student maintains their streak when they switch from one PowerUp strand to another. For example, if a student begins a streak while working in Word Study, they will continue building that same streak if they move to the Grammar or Comprehension strand.
How can teachers track streaks?
Information about streaks is not included in any class or student reports in myLexia. However, streak data is available on students’ PowerUp dashboards.
Teachers can encourage students to track their own streaks, using resources such as the Student Goal Setting Worksheet and the Student Progress Tracking Chart, which can both be found on the PowerUp Resources Hub under Student Achievement.
How can students track their own streaks?
From their PowerUp student dashboard, students can select the Your Progress tile to view statistics about their streaks.

The Streaks section on the Your Progress page shows the student’s highest streak from last week, this week, and of all time.

Can streaks be turned off?
No, there is not a way to disable streaks.
