Overview
This article describes two common reasons why some teachers and administrators may not be able to edit student account information, such as the student’s name, username, password, or grade, in myLexia.
Your school or district uses automated rostering
You have a read-only account in myLexia
Applies to: Educators and administrators who have Teacher, School Admin, or District Admin access to myLexia.
If you need to update student information, and you have a read-only account in myLexia, or your school or district automates rostering, work with the school or district department that manages your student information system.
What are some signs that my school or district is using an automated rostering system?
If your school or district uses automated rostering, and you try to edit a student whose account is controlled by the automated system, you will see the following in the Edit Student window:
Information managed by the automated system is highlighted in gray.
There is a field called RefID (this field does not appear in non-automated accounts).
If you hover over a drop-down menu or one of the gray fields, you’ll see an icon of a circle with a slash through it.

How can I see if I have a read-only account?
If you have a read-only account, you will not see the pencil icon in each student’s row under the Manage → Students page. Instead, you will see an eye icon that says “View Student” when you hover over it.
