Can't Edit Student Placement: Student is Still Logged In

Overview

A student must be completely logged out of their Lexia program in order for you to edit or reset their program placement in myLexia®️.

If you try to edit or reset a student’s program placement while they are still logged in, you will see an error message that says that the student is currently logged in to the program.

While the error message may indicate that the student is actually logged in and actively using the program, it may also be because they didn't fully log out of the program when they stopped working.

Applies to: Educators and administrators who have Teacher, School Admin, or District Admin access to myLexia®️.

Does not apply to: Educators and administrators who have read-only accounts in myLexia. If you have a read-only account, contact your myLexia school or district administrator for help.

Why does it say the student is logged in even though they aren’t using Lexia right now?

If you try to edit a student’s placement but receive an error that they are still logged in, even though you know they aren't using the program right now, it may be because of a recent incomplete logout.

You may be able to see that the student is not working in their Lexia program. In fact, they may have even logged out of their computer or device, and/or you may have tried to shut down or restart their device, but you still receive the error that the student is logged in to Lexia when you try to edit their placement.

When a student has not fully logged out (for example, if they close the browser tab or shut down their device without selecting “Log Out” in their Lexia program), the Lexia server considers their session active for the next 20 minutes. After 20 minutes of inactivity, the student is automatically logged out.

You will not be able to edit a student's program assignment in myLexia if both of the following are true:

  • After the student’s most recent session, they did not completely log out before they stopped working.

  • It has been less than 20 minutes since the student stopped actively using the program.

How can I resolve this error message?

If you see the error message that the student is logged in and you would like to edit their placement, first, verify that the student is not actually using the program! Then, try one of the following options:

  • Wait for at least 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, the student will be automatically logged out, and you should be able to edit their placement.

  • Ask the student to log in again and then make sure they log all the way out. Once they are fully logged out, you should be able to edit their placement.

  • Log out for the student. You can log in as the student on your device, and then log all the way out. This should end their session, and you should then be able to edit their placement.

Let students know that it's important to log out at the end of each session, and not just to close the browser window, log off their computer, or turn off their iPad.
