Why isn't Language Support Available in Core5 Auto Placement?

Overview

The Language Support Button in Lexia®️ Core5®️ Reading provides additional support for English language learners and allows them to hear task directions in their native language. This article explains why Language Support is not available during Core5 Auto Placement.

Language support must be enabled in myLexia before students can access it in Core5. To learn how to enable language support for a student, see How do I Enable Language Support in Core5?How do I Enable Language Support in PowerUp?How do I Enable Language Support in Core5?

Applies to: Educators and administrators who have Teacher, School Admin, or District Admin access to myLexia®️.

The goal of Core5 is to develop students' foundational reading skills in English. The Auto Placement tool is designed to place students into the most appropriate starting level of Core5, providing a personalized starting point to ensure they are working on material appropriate for their current English reading proficiency level.

For this reason, during Auto Placement we remove supplemental supports included in the instructional program, such as scaffolding, feedback, and language support. This allows us to conclude that a student’s Auto Placement performance represents their current English reading and language proficiency and that their instructional needs will be addressed through their initial placement and subsequent program levels.
