This article addresses some frequently asked questions about Auto Placement in Core5.

What is Core5 Auto Placement?

Auto Placement is a tool that is used only once when students first log into Core5. It is designed to place each student in the appropriate program level based on their performance.

How does Core5 Auto Placement Work?

Auto Placement uses content from Core5 word recognition (phonological awareness/phonics/structural analysis) and comprehension (vocabulary/comprehension) activities. Students begin Auto Placement based on their assigned grade in myLexia.

At each level, the student completes a unit from two different activities. If the student demonstrates proficiency in both units, they advance to activities in higher levels. If the student does not demonstrate proficiency in either unit, they are dropped to material in lower levels.

What do students experience when they take the Core5 Auto Placement?

When a student logs into Core5 for the first time, they will automatically begin Auto Placement. The program audio informs them that they will work through several activities, and that they should do their best work. They then work through activities until the program has placed them, at which point they receive a “Good Job!” message and will be logged out. When they next log in, they can begin using Core5 at their assigned level. How can I view or edit my students’ Core5 placement?

Core5 Auto Placement results are available in myLexia under Reading on your Class Overview page. You can also manually assign or edit students’ placement in myLexia on the Manage > Students page.
