Content Controls: Student Experience
Overview
The Content Controls site setting allows a myLexia District Administrator to disable Lexia
Core5
Reading program units for all students in the account. This article describes how Content Controls affect the student experience while using the program, and also how disabled units are reflected on their Core5 student dashboard.
For more information on Content Controls, see myLexia Settings: Content Controls.myLexia Settings: Content Controls
Applies to: Educators whose students use Core5, and whose school or district has disabled one or more units using the myLexia Content Controls feature.
What do students see when they reach a unit that has been disabled with Content Controls?
As they progress through Core5, students skip over units that are disabled with Content Controls and automatically advance to the next unit.
When they skip a disabled unit, students may notice that the progress meter at the bottom of the screen will advance by two units instead of one.
How are disabled units reflected in the student’s dashboard?
Unit Meters: Core5 has a Unit Meter in each activity and on the activity selection screen. When a student skips over a disabled unit, both the completed unit and the skipped unit will be filled in on the Unit Meter.
Student Dashboard: On the student dashboard, students can view how many units they have completed during the current week. Units that are disabled with Content Controls are not counted as completed units.

Skipped units will not have a row in the student's Detailed Skills report. For more information on how Content Controls affect student reports, see Content Controls: myLexia Reporting Impact.Content Controls: myLexia Reporting Impact |
Example: Unit 2 in an activity is disabled
-
After finishing Unit 1, the student advances to Unit 3 (skipping the disabled unit).
-
The student’s progress meter in the activity and progress meter on the activity selection screen advance by two units (one for the unit they completed, and one for the unit that was skipped).
-
The student’s dashboard shows that one unit has been added (credit is earned for finishing Unit 1, but not for the disabled unit).
