Aspire Assessments: Overview

Overview

Lexia Aspire®️ Professional Learning uses assessments to help educators track their progress and solidify their understanding of the content.

These assessments include Checks for Understanding and Knowledge Checks for each domain. This article describes the different types of assessments you will encounter as you work in Aspire.

Applies to: Educators who are enrolled in Lexia Aspire®️ Professional Learning.

What are the different types of assessments in Aspire?

Knowledge Checks

Participants begin work in each domain with Knowledge Checks. These checks provide a baseline of domain knowledge before starting the courses.

Each Knowledge Check is 15 questions long and covers concepts across the entire domain.

Note

Knowledge Checks replace the Pretests that previously signaled the start of participants' work in a domain.

If you previously took a Pretest before the implementation of Knowledge Checks, your Pretest score will be used and you will not need to take the Knowledge Check for that domain.

Checks for Understanding

You will complete Checks for Understanding (10 multiple-choice questions) at the end of each Aspire course.

  • The Checks for Understanding are not timed, and you can reference your notes.

  • You will receive feedback for both correct and incorrect responses on your final attempt.

    • If your first attempt is correct, you receive feedback.

    • For incorrect responses, you will receive scaffolding in the form of specific course content, followed by a replacement question.

  • You earn 10 points for correctly answering each original question, and 8 points for each replacement question.

  • As you work through a Check for Understanding, you will see if your response was correct or incorrect after each question.

  • You may attempt each Check for Understanding one time. Due to the availability of scaffolded content and replacement questions, Checks for Understanding cannot be reset.

What are replacement questions?

Replacement questions are available for incorrect attempts on the Checks for Understanding.

As you take a Check for Understanding, you will receive immediate feedback for each question.

If you answer a question incorrectly, you will receive scaffolding, which means that you will be prompted to review course content before receiving a replacement question.

You will earn 10 points for answering an original question correctly, and 8 points for answering a replacement question correctly.

Note

You cannot have any assessment reset in the Aspire program.

Pretests and Posttests

Notice

Aspire no longer has a program-level Pretest or Posttest.

To track your progress in each domain, compare your Knowledge Check score with your average Check Your Understanding score.
